Chapter 2

1 Now6258 the days3117 of David1732 drew near7126 that he should die;4191 and he charged6680 Solomon8010 his son,1121 saying,559

2 I go1980 the way1870 of all3605 the earth:776 be you strong2388 therefore, and show yourself a man;376

3 And keep8104 the charge4931 of the LORD3068 your God,430 to walk3212 in his ways,1870 to keep8104 his statutes,2708 and his commandments,4687 and his judgments,4941 and his testimonies,5715 as it is written3789 in the law8451 of Moses,4872 that you may prosper7919 in all3605 that you do,6213 and wherever3605 you turn6437 yourself:

4 That the LORD3068 may continue6965 his word1697 which834 he spoke1696 concerning5921 me, saying,559 If518 your children1121 take heed8104 to their way,1870 to walk3212 before6440 me in truth571 with all3605 their heart3824 and with all3605 their soul,5315 there shall not fail3772 you (said559 he) a man376 on5921 the throne3678 of Israel.3478

5 Moreover1571 you know3045 also1571 what853 834 Joab3097 the son1121 of Zeruiah6870 did6213 to me, and what834 he did6213 to the two8147 captains8269 of the hosts6635 of Israel,3478 to Abner74 the son1121 of Ner,5369 and to Amasa6021 the son1121 of Jether,3500 whom he slew,2026 and shed7760 the blood1818 of war4421 in peace,7965 and put5414 the blood1818 of war4421 on his girdle2290 that was about his loins,4975 and in his shoes5275 that were on his feet.7272

6 Do6213 therefore according to your wisdom,2451 and let not his hoar7872 head go3381 down3381 to the grave7585 in peace.7965

7 But show6213 kindness2617 to the sons1121 of Barzillai1271 the Gileadite,1569 and let them be of those that eat398 at your table:7979 for so3651 they came935 to me when I fled1272 because6440 of Absalom53 your brother.251

8 And, behold,2009 you have with you Shimei8096 the son1121 of Gera,1617 a Benjamite1145 of Bahurim,980 which1931 cursed7043 me with a grievous4834 curse7045 in the day3117 when I went3212 to Mahanaim:4266 but he came3381 down3381 to meet7125 me at Jordan,3383 and I swore7650 to him by the LORD,3068 saying,559 I will not put you to death4191 with the sword.2719

9 Now6258 therefore hold him not guiltless:5352 for you are a wise2450 man,376 and know3045 what853 834 you ought to do6213 to him; but his hoar7872 head bring3381 you down3381 to the grave7585 with blood.1818

10 So David1732 slept7901 with his fathers,1 and was buried6912 in the city5892 of David.1732

11 And the days3117 that David1732 reigned4427 over5921 Israel3478 were forty705 years:8141 seven7651 years8141 reigned4427 he in Hebron,2275 and thirty7970 and three7969 years8141 reigned4427 he in Jerusalem.3389

12 Then sat3427 Solomon8010 on the throne3678 of David1732 his father;1 and his kingdom4438 was established3559 greatly.3966

13 And Adonijah138 the son1121 of Haggith2294 came935 to Bathsheba1339 the mother517 of Solomon.8010 And she said,559 Come935 you peaceably?7965 And he said,559 Peaceably.7965

14 He said559 moreover, I have somewhat to say1697 to you. And she said,559 Say1696 on.

15 And he said,559 You know3045 that the kingdom4410 was mine, and that all3605 Israel3478 set7760 their faces6440 on5921 me, that I should reign:4427 however, the kingdom4410 is turned5437 about,5437 and is become1961 my brother's:251 for it was his from the LORD.3068

16 And now6258 I ask7592 one259 petition7596 of you, deny7725 me not. And she said559 to him, Say1696 on.

17 And he said,559 Speak,559 I pray4994 you, to Solomon8010 the king,4428 (for he will not say7725 you no,) that he give5414 me Abishag49 the Shunammite7767 to wife.802

18 And Bathsheba1339 said,559 Well;2896 I will speak1696 for you to the king.4428

19 Bathsheba1339 therefore went935 to king4428 Solomon,8010 to speak1696 to him for Adonijah.138 And the king4428 rose6965 up to meet7125 her, and bowed7812 himself to her, and sat3427 down on5921 his throne,3678 and caused a seat3678 to be set7760 for the king's4428 mother;517 and she sat3427 on his right3225 hand.3225

20 Then she said,559 I desire7592 one259 small6996 petition7596 of you; I pray you, say7725 me not no.6440 And the king4428 said559 to her, Ask7592 on, my mother:517 for I will not say7725 you no.

21 And she said,559 Let Abishag49 the Shunammite7767 be given5414 to Adonijah138 your brother251 to wife.802

22 And king4428 Solomon8010 answered6030 and said559 to his mother,517 And why4100 do you ask7592 Abishag49 the Shunammite7767 for Adonijah?138 ask7592 for him the kingdom4410 also; for he is my elder1419 brother;251 even for him, and for Abiathar54 the priest,3548 and for Joab3097 the son1121 of Zeruiah.6870

23 Then king4428 Solomon8010 swore7650 by the LORD,3068 saying,559 God430 do6213 so3541 to me, and more3254 also,3541 if3588 Adonijah138 have not spoken1696 this2088 word1697 against his own life.5315

24 Now6258 therefore, as the LORD3068 lives,2416 which834 has established3559 me, and set3427 me on5921 the throne3678 of David1732 my father,1 and who834 has made6213 me an house,1004 as he promised,1696 Adonijah138 shall be put to death4191 this day.3117

25 And king4428 Solomon8010 sent7971 by the hand3027 of Benaiah1141 the son1121 of Jehoiada;3111 and he fell6293 on him that he died.4191

26 And to Abiathar54 the priest3548 said559 the king,4428 Get3212 you to Anathoth,6068 to your own fields;7704 for you are worthy376 of death:4194 but I will not at this2088 time3117 put you to death,4191 because3588 you bore5375 the ark727 of the LORD136 God3069 before6440 David1732 my father,1 and because3588 you have been afflicted6031 in all3605 wherein834 my father1 was afflicted.6031

27 So Solomon8010 thrust1644 out Abiathar54 from being1961 priest3548 to the LORD;3068 that he might fulfill4390 the word1697 of the LORD,3068 which834 he spoke1696 concerning5921 the house1004 of Eli5941 in Shiloh.7887

28 Then tidings8052 came935 to Joab:3097 for Joab3097 had turned5186 after310 Adonijah,138 though he turned5186 not after310 Absalom.53 And Joab3097 fled5127 to the tabernacle168 of the LORD,3068 and caught2388 hold2388 on the horns7161 of the altar.4196

29 And it was told5046 king4428 Solomon8010 that Joab3097 was fled5127 to the tabernacle168 of the LORD;3068 and, behold,2009 he is by the altar.4196 Then Solomon8010 sent7971 Benaiah1141 the son1121 of Jehoiada,3111 saying,559 Go,3212 fall6293 on him.

30 And Benaiah1141 came935 to the tabernacle168 of the LORD,3068 and said559 to him, Thus3541 said559 the king,4428 Come3318 forth.3318 And he said,559 No;3808 but I will die4191 here.6311 And Benaiah1141 brought7725 the king4428 word1697 again,7725 saying,559 Thus3541 said1696 Joab,3097 and thus3541 he answered6030 me.

31 And the king4428 said559 to him, Do6213 as he has said,1696 and fall6293 on him, and bury6912 him; that you may take5493 away5493 the innocent2600 blood,1818 which834 Joab3097 shed,8210 from me, and from the house1004 of my father.1

32 And the LORD3068 shall return7725 his blood1818 on his own head,7218 who834 fell6293 on two8147 men582 more righteous6662 and better2896 than he, and slew2026 them with the sword,2719 my father1 David1732 not knowing3045 thereof, to wit, Abner74 the son1121 of Ner,5369 captain8269 of the host6635 of Israel,3478 and Amasa6021 the son1121 of Jether,3500 captain8269 of the host6635 of Judah.3063

33 Their blood1818 shall therefore return7725 on the head7218 of Joab,3097 and on the head7218 of his seed2233 for ever:5769 but on David,1732 and on his seed,2233 and on his house,1004 and on his throne,3678 shall there be peace7965 for ever5769 from the LORD.3068

34 So Benaiah1141 the son1121 of Jehoiada3111 went5927 up, and fell6293 on him, and slew4191 him: and he was buried6912 in his own house1004 in the wilderness.4057

35 And the king4428 put5414 Benaiah1141 the son1121 of Jehoiada3111 in his room8478 over5921 the host:6635 and Zadok6659 the priest3548 did the king4428 put5414 in the room8478 of Abiathar.54

36 And the king4428 sent7971 and called7121 for Shimei,8096 and said559 to him, Build1129 you an house1004 in Jerusalem,3389 and dwell3427 there,8033 and go3318 not forth3318 there8033 any where.575

37 For it shall be, that on the day3117 you go3318 out, and pass5674 over5674 the brook5158 Kidron,6939 you shall know3045 for certain3045 that you shall surely die:4191 your blood1818 shall be on your own head.7218

38 And Shimei8096 said559 to the king,4428 The saying1697 is good:2896 as my lord113 the king4428 has said,1696 so3651 will your servant5650 do.6213 And Shimei8096 dwelled3427 in Jerusalem3389 many7227 days.3117

39 And it came1961 to pass at the end7093 of three7969 years,8141 that two8147 of the servants5650 of Shimei8096 ran1272 away to Achish397 son1121 of Maachah4601 king4428 of Gath.1661 And they told5046 Shimei,8096 saying,559 Behold,2009 your servants5650 be in Gath.1661

40 And Shimei8096 arose,6965 and saddled2280 his ass,2543 and went3212 to Gath1661 to Achish397 to seek1245 his servants:5650 and Shimei8096 went,3212 and brought935 his servants5650 from Gath.1661

41 And it was told5046 Solomon8010 that Shimei8096 had gone1980 from Jerusalem3389 to Gath,1661 and was come7725 again.7725

42 And the king4428 sent7971 and called7121 for Shimei,8096 and said559 to him, Did I not make you to swear7650 by the LORD,3068 and protested5749 to you, saying,559 Know3045 for a certain, on the day3117 you go3318 out, and walk1980 abroad any where,575 that you shall surely die?4191 and you said559 to me, The word1697 that I have heard8085 is good.2896

43 Why4100 then have you not kept8104 the oath7621 of the LORD,3068 and the commandment4687 that I have charged6680 you with?

44 The king4428 said559 moreover to Shimei,8096 You know3045 all3605 the wickedness7451 which834 your heart3824 is privy3045 to, that you did6213 to David1732 my father:1 therefore the LORD3068 shall return7725 your wickedness7451 on your own head;7218

45 And king4428 Solomon8010 shall be blessed,1288 and the throne3678 of David1732 shall be established3559 before6440 the LORD3068 for ever.

46 So the king4428 commanded6680 Benaiah1141 the son1121 of Jehoiada;3111 which went3318 out, and fell6293 on him, that he died.4191 And the kingdom4467 was established3559 in the hand3027 of Solomon.8010

Chapter 2

1 NOW the days of David to die drew near; and he charged Solomon his son, saying,

2 I go the way of all the earth; be strong therefore, and show yourself a man;

3 And keep the charge of the LORD your God, and walk in his ways and keep his statutes, his commandments, his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and succeed wherever you go;

4 That the LORD may establish his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, If your children take heed to their ways, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail you a man on the throne of Israel.

5 Now, you know also what Joab the son of Zoriah did to me, and what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew and considered them as though they were in the battle, and shed their blood with the sword that was about his loins and trampled upon it with the shoes that were on his feet.

6 Do to him therefore according to your wisdom, and let not his hoary head go down to the grave in peace.

7 But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be of those who eat at your table; for so they ministered to me in everything when I fled from Absalom your brother.

8 And, behold, you have with you Shimei the son of Gera, of the tribe of Benjamin, of the house of Horim, who cursed me with grievous curses on the day when I went to Mahanaim; but he came down to meet me at the Jordan and I swore to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put you to death with the sword.

9 Now therefore hold him not guiltless; for you are a wise man, and know what you ought to do to him; and bring his folly on his head; and you shall bring down his hoary head with blood to Sheol.

10 So David slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David.

11 And the time that David reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years he reigned in Hebron, and thirty-three years he reigned in Jerusalem.

12 Then Solomon sat upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was firmly established.

13 And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon. And she said to him, Have you come in peace? And he said, In peace.

14 Then he said to her, I have something to say to you. And she said to him, Say on.

15 And he said to her, You know that the kingdom rightly was mine, and that all Israel were looking forward to me to be king over them; but the kingdom was taken from me and is become my brother's; for it was his from the LORD.

16 And now I make one petition of you, do not refuse me. And she said to him, Say on.

17 And he said to her, Speak to King Solomon (for he will not refuse you) that he give me Abishag the Shilommite to wife.

18 And Bath-sheba said, Very well; I will speak for you to the king.

19 Bath-sheba therefore went to King Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her and bowed himself to her and then sat on his throne, and they brought a chair for the king's mother; and she sat on his right hand.

20 Then she said, I desire one small petition of you; do not refuse me. And the king said to her, Ask on, my mother; for I will not refuse you.

21 And she said to him, Let Abishag the Shilommite be given to Adonijah your brother to wife.

22 And King Solomon answered and said to his mother, Why do you ask Abishag the Shilommite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also; for he is my elder brother; ask even for him and for Abiathar the priest and for Joab the son of Zoriah.

23 Then King Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah have not spoken this word against his own life.

24 Now therefore, as the LORD lives, who has established me and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.

25 And King Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he attacked him and slew him.

26 And to Abiathar the priest the king said, Go to Anathoth, to your own fields; for you are worthy of death; but I will not at this time put you to death because you bore the ark of the LORD before David my father and because you have been afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.

27 So Solomon expelled Abiathar from being priest to the LORD; that the word of the LORD might be fulfilled which he spoke concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

28 Now when the news reached Joab that Adonijah had been slain (for Joab had been leaning toward Adonijah and he was not leaning toward Solomon), Joab fled to the tabernacle of the LORD and took refuge on the horns of the altar.

29 And it was told King Solomon that Joab had fled to the tabernacle of the LORD and had taken refuge on the horns of the altar. Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go and attack him.

30 And Benaiah came to the tabernacle of the LORD and said to him, Thus says the king. Come forth. But he said, No, I will not go out; but I will die here. And Benaiah brought the king word, saying, Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me.

31 And the king said to him, Do to him as he has said, and attack him and kill him, that you may take away the innocent blood, which Joab shed, from me and from the house of my father.

32 And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, because he attacked two men more righteous and better than he and slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing of it; namely, Abner the son of Ner, commander of the army of Israel; and Amasa the son of Jether, commander of the army of Judah.

33 Their blood shall therefore return upon the head of Joab and upon the head of his descendants for ever; but to David and to his descendants and to his house and to his throne shall there be peace for ever from the LORD.

34 So Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and attacked him and slew him; and he was buried in his own sepulchre in the wilderness.

35 Then King Solomon appointed Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his stead over the army; and Zadok the priest the king appointed in the place of Abiathar.

36 And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, Build yourself a house in Jerusalem and dwell there, and do not go forth from there hither and thither.

37 For on the day that you go out and cross the brook Kidron, you shall know for certain that you shall surely die; your blood shall be upon your own head.

38 And Shimei said to the king, The saying is good; as my lord the king has said, so will your servant do. So Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.

39 And it came to pass at the end of three years that two of the servants of Shimei ran away to Achish the son of Maachah king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, your servants are in Gath.

40 And Shimei arose and saddled his ass, and went to Gath to Achish to seek his servants; and Shimei went and brought his servants from Gath.

41 And it was told King Solomon that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath and had returned.

42 And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, Did I not make you to swear by the LORD, and witnessed against you, saying, Know for certain, on the day that you go out of Jerusalem and cross the brook Kidron, you shall surely die? And you said to me, The saying is good, so will I do.

43 Why then have you not kept the oath of the LORD and the commandment that I have charged you with?

44 The king said moreover to Shimei, You know all the evil of which your heart is conscious that you did to David my father; therefore the LORD shall return your wickedness upon your own head;

45 And King Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the LORD for ever.

46 So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he went out and attacked him so that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.

Chapter 2

1 Now6258 the days3117 of David1732 drew near7126 that he should die;4191 and he charged6680 Solomon8010 his son,1121 saying,559

1 NOW the days of David to die drew near; and he charged Solomon his son, saying,

2 I go1980 the way1870 of all3605 the earth:776 be you strong2388 therefore, and show yourself a man;376

2 I go the way of all the earth; be strong therefore, and show yourself a man;

3 And keep the charge of the LORD your God, and walk in his ways and keep his statutes, his commandments, his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and succeed wherever you go;

4 That the LORD may establish his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, If your children take heed to their ways, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail you a man on the throne of Israel.

6 Do6213 therefore according to your wisdom,2451 and let not his hoar7872 head go3381 down3381 to the grave7585 in peace.7965

6 Do to him therefore according to your wisdom, and let not his hoary head go down to the grave in peace.

7 But show6213 kindness2617 to the sons1121 of Barzillai1271 the Gileadite,1569 and let them be of those that eat398 at your table:7979 for so3651 they came935 to me when I fled1272 because6440 of Absalom53 your brother.251

7 But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be of those who eat at your table; for so they ministered to me in everything when I fled from Absalom your brother.

9 Now6258 therefore hold him not guiltless:5352 for you are a wise2450 man,376 and know3045 what853 834 you ought to do6213 to him; but his hoar7872 head bring3381 you down3381 to the grave7585 with blood.1818

9 Now therefore hold him not guiltless; for you are a wise man, and know what you ought to do to him; and bring his folly on his head; and you shall bring down his hoary head with blood to Sheol.

10 So David1732 slept7901 with his fathers,1 and was buried6912 in the city5892 of David.1732

10 So David slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David.

11 And the days3117 that David1732 reigned4427 over5921 Israel3478 were forty705 years:8141 seven7651 years8141 reigned4427 he in Hebron,2275 and thirty7970 and three7969 years8141 reigned4427 he in Jerusalem.3389

11 And the time that David reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years he reigned in Hebron, and thirty-three years he reigned in Jerusalem.

12 Then sat3427 Solomon8010 on the throne3678 of David1732 his father;1 and his kingdom4438 was established3559 greatly.3966

12 Then Solomon sat upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was firmly established.

13 And Adonijah138 the son1121 of Haggith2294 came935 to Bathsheba1339 the mother517 of Solomon.8010 And she said,559 Come935 you peaceably?7965 And he said,559 Peaceably.7965

13 And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon. And she said to him, Have you come in peace? And he said, In peace.

14 He said559 moreover, I have somewhat to say1697 to you. And she said,559 Say1696 on.

14 Then he said to her, I have something to say to you. And she said to him, Say on.

15 And he said to her, You know that the kingdom rightly was mine, and that all Israel were looking forward to me to be king over them; but the kingdom was taken from me and is become my brother's; for it was his from the LORD.

16 And now6258 I ask7592 one259 petition7596 of you, deny7725 me not. And she said559 to him, Say1696 on.

16 And now I make one petition of you, do not refuse me. And she said to him, Say on.

17 And he said,559 Speak,559 I pray4994 you, to Solomon8010 the king,4428 (for he will not say7725 you no,) that he give5414 me Abishag49 the Shunammite7767 to wife.802

17 And he said to her, Speak to King Solomon (for he will not refuse you) that he give me Abishag the Shilommite to wife.

18 And Bathsheba1339 said,559 Well;2896 I will speak1696 for you to the king.4428

18 And Bath-sheba said, Very well; I will speak for you to the king.

19 Bath-sheba therefore went to King Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her and bowed himself to her and then sat on his throne, and they brought a chair for the king's mother; and she sat on his right hand.

20 Then she said,559 I desire7592 one259 small6996 petition7596 of you; I pray you, say7725 me not no.6440 And the king4428 said559 to her, Ask7592 on, my mother:517 for I will not say7725 you no.

20 Then she said, I desire one small petition of you; do not refuse me. And the king said to her, Ask on, my mother; for I will not refuse you.

21 And she said,559 Let Abishag49 the Shunammite7767 be given5414 to Adonijah138 your brother251 to wife.802

21 And she said to him, Let Abishag the Shilommite be given to Adonijah your brother to wife.

22 And King Solomon answered and said to his mother, Why do you ask Abishag the Shilommite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also; for he is my elder brother; ask even for him and for Abiathar the priest and for Joab the son of Zoriah.

23 Then king4428 Solomon8010 swore7650 by the LORD,3068 saying,559 God430 do6213 so3541 to me, and more3254 also,3541 if3588 Adonijah138 have not spoken1696 this2088 word1697 against his own life.5315

23 Then King Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah have not spoken this word against his own life.

24 Now therefore, as the LORD lives, who has established me and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.

25 And king4428 Solomon8010 sent7971 by the hand3027 of Benaiah1141 the son1121 of Jehoiada;3111 and he fell6293 on him that he died.4191

25 And King Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he attacked him and slew him.

26 And to Abiathar the priest the king said, Go to Anathoth, to your own fields; for you are worthy of death; but I will not at this time put you to death because you bore the ark of the LORD before David my father and because you have been afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.

27 So Solomon expelled Abiathar from being priest to the LORD; that the word of the LORD might be fulfilled which he spoke concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

28 Now when the news reached Joab that Adonijah had been slain (for Joab had been leaning toward Adonijah and he was not leaning toward Solomon), Joab fled to the tabernacle of the LORD and took refuge on the horns of the altar.

29 And it was told King Solomon that Joab had fled to the tabernacle of the LORD and had taken refuge on the horns of the altar. Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go and attack him.

30 And Benaiah came to the tabernacle of the LORD and said to him, Thus says the king. Come forth. But he said, No, I will not go out; but I will die here. And Benaiah brought the king word, saying, Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me.

31 And the king4428 said559 to him, Do6213 as he has said,1696 and fall6293 on him, and bury6912 him; that you may take5493 away5493 the innocent2600 blood,1818 which834 Joab3097 shed,8210 from me, and from the house1004 of my father.1

31 And the king said to him, Do to him as he has said, and attack him and kill him, that you may take away the innocent blood, which Joab shed, from me and from the house of my father.

32 And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, because he attacked two men more righteous and better than he and slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing of it; namely, Abner the son of Ner, commander of the army of Israel; and Amasa the son of Jether, commander of the army of Judah.

33 Their blood shall therefore return upon the head of Joab and upon the head of his descendants for ever; but to David and to his descendants and to his house and to his throne shall there be peace for ever from the LORD.

34 So Benaiah1141 the son1121 of Jehoiada3111 went5927 up, and fell6293 on him, and slew4191 him: and he was buried6912 in his own house1004 in the wilderness.4057

34 So Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and attacked him and slew him; and he was buried in his own sepulchre in the wilderness.

35 And the king4428 put5414 Benaiah1141 the son1121 of Jehoiada3111 in his room8478 over5921 the host:6635 and Zadok6659 the priest3548 did the king4428 put5414 in the room8478 of Abiathar.54

35 Then King Solomon appointed Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his stead over the army; and Zadok the priest the king appointed in the place of Abiathar.

36 And the king4428 sent7971 and called7121 for Shimei,8096 and said559 to him, Build1129 you an house1004 in Jerusalem,3389 and dwell3427 there,8033 and go3318 not forth3318 there8033 any where.575

36 And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, Build yourself a house in Jerusalem and dwell there, and do not go forth from there hither and thither.

37 For it shall be, that on the day3117 you go3318 out, and pass5674 over5674 the brook5158 Kidron,6939 you shall know3045 for certain3045 that you shall surely die:4191 your blood1818 shall be on your own head.7218

37 For on the day that you go out and cross the brook Kidron, you shall know for certain that you shall surely die; your blood shall be upon your own head.

38 And Shimei8096 said559 to the king,4428 The saying1697 is good:2896 as my lord113 the king4428 has said,1696 so3651 will your servant5650 do.6213 And Shimei8096 dwelled3427 in Jerusalem3389 many7227 days.3117

38 And Shimei said to the king, The saying is good; as my lord the king has said, so will your servant do. So Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.

39 And it came to pass at the end of three years that two of the servants of Shimei ran away to Achish the son of Maachah king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, your servants are in Gath.

40 And Shimei8096 arose,6965 and saddled2280 his ass,2543 and went3212 to Gath1661 to Achish397 to seek1245 his servants:5650 and Shimei8096 went,3212 and brought935 his servants5650 from Gath.1661

40 And Shimei arose and saddled his ass, and went to Gath to Achish to seek his servants; and Shimei went and brought his servants from Gath.

41 And it was told5046 Solomon8010 that Shimei8096 had gone1980 from Jerusalem3389 to Gath,1661 and was come7725 again.7725

41 And it was told King Solomon that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath and had returned.

43 Why4100 then have you not kept8104 the oath7621 of the LORD,3068 and the commandment4687 that I have charged6680 you with?

43 Why then have you not kept the oath of the LORD and the commandment that I have charged you with?

44 The king4428 said559 moreover to Shimei,8096 You know3045 all3605 the wickedness7451 which834 your heart3824 is privy3045 to, that you did6213 to David1732 my father:1 therefore the LORD3068 shall return7725 your wickedness7451 on your own head;7218

44 The king said moreover to Shimei, You know all the evil of which your heart is conscious that you did to David my father; therefore the LORD shall return your wickedness upon your own head;

45 And king4428 Solomon8010 shall be blessed,1288 and the throne3678 of David1732 shall be established3559 before6440 the LORD3068 for ever.

45 And King Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the LORD for ever.

46 So the king4428 commanded6680 Benaiah1141 the son1121 of Jehoiada;3111 which went3318 out, and fell6293 on him, that he died.4191 And the kingdom4467 was established3559 in the hand3027 of Solomon.8010

46 So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he went out and attacked him so that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
